Civil Rights Actions
Kubiliun & Associates specializes in federal civil rights actions against municipalities and has represented Plaintiffs against Defendants all over South Florida. The firm negotiated one of the largest settlements in the history of the Broward Sheriff’s Office in the case of a Mexican migrant worker who was shot in the back of the head by a BSO Deputy. The firm has successfully prosecuted police brutality and false arrest cases against multiple police agencies and has achieved settlements in the multi-million dollar range.
In addition, the firm is currently representing multiple clients in a law suit against Miami Dade County challenging the constitutionality of the medical care and jail conditions in the Miami Dade County Jails. As a result of extensive research conducted by the firm into years of inadequate medical care, the United States Department of Justice has launched a long-term investigation into whether systemic federal civil rights violations are occurring in the jail system, one of only five such investigations started in the past two years. As a result of the investigation and law suit, major systemic reforms are already being instituted in the jail system to alleviate the conditions which affect the tens of thousands of pre-trial inmates which pass through the Miami Dade system every year.
