Lynn D. Overmann
Attorney
Lynn Overmann graduated from Bryn Mawr College magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree with a double-major in political science and history, winning awards in both her fields of study. While at Bryn Mawr, Ms. Overmann was active in national Democratic politics, spending the summer of 1994 as an intern at the White House, Office of the First Lady, working for Jacob Lew in his position as Congressional Liaison on Health Care Reform. Upon her return to Bryn Mawr in the fall of 1994, Ms. Overmann spent three days a week working on the re-election campaign of Senator Harris Wofford. An internship for a Washington, D.C. law firm specializing in government relations the following summer led Ms. Overmann to a career in law.
Ms. Overmann attended New York University School of Law as a Root-Tilden-Kern Public Interest scholar and graduated cum laude in 1999. She spent five years at the Miami Dade Public Defender’s Office, where she tried more than twenty felony cases to verdict, before joining Kubiliun & Associates, P.A. in 2004. At Kubiliun & Associates, she has specialized in federal civil rights actions against municipalities all over South Florida, including one of the largest settlements in the history of the Broward Sheriff’s Office in the case of a Mexican migrant worker who was shot in the back of the head by a BSO Deputy. Ms. Overmann has also settled civil rights law suits against the City of Miami and Miami Dade County, as well as numerous pending cases in litigation.
In addition, Ms. Overmann is currently the lead attorney in a multi-plaintiff law suit against Miami Dade County challenging the constitutionality of the medical care in the Miami Dade County Jails. As a result of extensive research conducted by Ms. Overmann into years of inadequate medical care, the United States Department of Justice has launched an extensive investigation into whether systemic federal civil rights violations are occurring in the jail system, one of only five such investigations started in the past two years. As a result of the investigation and law suit, major systemic reforms are already being instituted in the jail system to alleviate the conditions which affect the tens of thousands of pre-trial inmates which pass through the Miami Dade system every year.
Ms. Overmann is married with four children and has been active in Democratic politics for several years. She was a member of President Obama’s National Finance Committee, International Finance Committee (Canada), Women’s Leadership Steering Committee, National Co-Chair of Generation Obama, and a member of the Criminal Justice Policy Committee. She is currently a member of the Democratic National Committee’s National Finance Committee.
Lynn Overmann a member of the Florida Bar and the bar of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. She has been chosen by the South Florida Legal Guide as a Top Up and Coming Lawyer in Civil Rights and Criminal Defense in 2007, 2008 and 2009.
