David M. Kubiliun
Attorney

David M. Kubiliun was born in New York and raised in North Miami Beach, Florida.  He received his undergraduate education at The University of Florida where he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. After graduating from the University of Florida, he took a job as an investigator at the Miami Dade Office of the Public Defender.   His work at the Public Defender’s Office convinced him to pursue a career in law.    In addition to his juris doctorate, which he obtained from the University of Miami School of Law, Mr. Kubiliun was awarded a Master of Science degree in Sports Administration by St. Thomas University.     While attending law school, Mr. Kubiliun continued to work as an investigator and was also the Vice-President of the U.M. Law School Honor Council.

After graduation from law school, Mr. Kubiliun returned to the Public Defender’s Office where he spent three years as an Assistant Public Defender, representing indigent defendants charged with crime in both misdemeanor and felony court.   In 2002, Mr. Kubiliun left the Public Defender’s office to start Kubiliun & Associates, P.A., a firm specializing in criminal defense and civil rights.   Almost from the outset, the firm has been involved in multiple high profile cases, including the internationally covered case of three Muslim medical students stopped on Alligator Alley one year after 9/11 and wrongfully arrested based on a tip from a woman in Georgia.

Mr. Kubiliun, a fluent speaker of both Spanish and English, practices in the areas of state & federal criminal defense and civil rights.    Mr. Kubiliun specializes in handling media relations for the firm on high profile cases as well as negotiating complex and difficult settlements in the firm’s criminal and civil cases.   In addition to his State and Federal court practice, Mr. Kubiliun is a legal consultant for the Mexican Government in criminal and civil rights matters.

Mr. Kubiliun is married with two children and is active in community acitivities.  Mr. Kubiliun is the immediate past Chair of a Florida Bar Grievance Committee and is a former member of the City of Miami Bond Oversight Committee.   Mr. Kubiliun was appointed by the City of Pembroke Pines to serve on the City’s Disciplinary action board adjudicating complaints against city employees.  Mr. Kubiliun is also a member of President Barack Obama’s National Latino Leadership Council.

David Kubiliun is a member of the Florida Bar, the District of Columbia Bar, the United States District Court for the Southern and Northern District of Florida, the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.   Mr. Kubiliun has been chosen by the South Florida Legal Guide as a Top Up and Coming Lawyer in 2007 and 2008 and as a Top Lawyer in Civil Rights and Criminal Defense in 2009.
